Halifax County Contacts

This is a private reference page, not a government office. It cannot confirm custody, release anyone, post bond, or retrieve an official booking record. The contacts below route a question to the office that actually keeps the relevant Halifax County record. Verify hours, extensions, and procedures with the agency before visiting or sending a request.

Where to Ask for a Record

For a current Halifax County detention question, start with the Halifax County Sheriff's Office and its detention center. For an arrest report, contact the agency that made the arrest. For a court date, bond, or disposition, contact the magistrate or clerk. For a state-prison record, use NCDAC rather than the county jail.

Choose the Right Official Path

  • Booking or current custody: use the HCSO Inmate Search page and call detention at 252-583-3081 if its linked endpoint is unavailable. HCSO's FAQ says to give the person's full name for charges or bond questions.
  • Roanoke Rapids arrest: contact RRPD at 252-533-2810 for the originating police record; use HCSO if the person was committed to county detention.
  • Enfield arrest: use the town police page and its log, then HCSO for a detention booking. The Enfield Police page lists 115 SE Railroad Street and Chief Shoemaker at 252-382-1324.
  • Halifax arrest: no separate town police or booking page was found, so route the county custody question to HCSO and the later case to the courts.
  • State custody: use the NCDAC search for state prisoners, probationers, and parolees. It excludes county-jail inmates.
  • Federal or immigration custody: use BOP or ICE. Neither is a Halifax County booking-photo service.

Courts, Release, and Disposition

The Halifax County courthouse is at 357 Ferrell Lane, Halifax, NC 27839. The clerk and courthouse phone is 252-593-3000, and the listed hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Halifax magistrate is 252-593-3019. The Enfield magistrate is 252-445-2961, and the Roanoke Rapids magistrate is 252-537-6070. Use the Halifax County NC Courts page for calendars, court records, and eCourts links.

Release questions and court outcomes are different from detention intake. A booking charge is an accusation and can later be reduced or dismissed. The clerk and court record, not a photo or news item, show the disposition.

How to Make a Records Request

For a booking record or photo, send HCSO a focused request under North Carolina Chapter 132 through its official contact route. Name the person, approximate date, arresting agency, booking or case number if known, and the exact record sought. Ask for electronic copies, any statutory reason for withholding, and current reproduction costs before extensive work begins. North Carolina law supports access to maintained records but does not require an office to create a record that does not exist.

For a court file, use the NC Courts public-record request guidance or the clerk. For a city incident report, ask the police department. Keep the sent request and follow up through the same official channel.

Do not send emergencies, safety tips, or urgent custody concerns through a records form or this page. Call 911 for an emergency and use Crime Stoppers for an anonymous tip.
